Adding remote to very old garage door openers

I own a house that was built around 1920. There are 2 single garage doors with pushbuttons on the side of the garage. There are also switches in the the house to open or close each door. There are metal boxes about 1 foot square on each mechanism which I think may have been for old remotes. Is it a problem to add remotes to each garage door

What's the make and model number of your garage door operators ? most garage door operators have a receiver control board integrated.
All you would need to do is purchase some remote fobs and program them to your garage door operators if they have the receiver board already fitted.

it may help if you could post up some pictures of your garage door operators and any controls.

RE: Adding remote to very old garage door openers

there isn't a receiver control board. These garage doors are probably 80 years old and work via the push buttons outside and the switch inside. What I was hoping to do was add some type of device so that I can use remotes to open the doors. Is it feasible to add such a device.

Hi, You can add a universal reciever which would allow you to use our liftmaster remotes on your garage door. i suggest you get the 8002E dual channel universal reciever.

All you would have to do is find out where the wires go from the push buttons and connect them to the reciever for each door. or even if you cant trace the wires back, you can take your push buttons off the wall and connect them to the reciever that way.

You will need 12V or 24V power supply for the receiver, if your garage door openers dont have a power output for this, then we supply a 12V plug in power supply which just plugs into a normal plug socket and wires into the reciever.

Thanks
